Summer Camp Program
We have been hard at work this year to strengthen the OA's program at summer camp for the 2004 season. Along with many returning activities, we have added a few more in the hopes of improving the overall quality of our program. Here's a sneak peek at what's happening:
Brotherhood Conversions: Allogagan Lodge will once again be holding Brotherhood conversions every week of summer camp. The Brotherhood fee is $15 and must be paid in full before you will be able to obtain brotherhood. Anyone interested should pay early in the week to be prepared for the trail ahead! There are several requirements to obtain brotherhood which are outlined below.
Memorization: Interested Scouts should pick up a Brotherhood pamphlet and be able to explain it in your own words (Don't worry, it's not a test!). Scouts should also memorize the Obligation and Song of the Order. Testing will take place whenever the candidate feels he is ready, however it must be completed by Wednesday evening.
Service Project: Scouts should also plan on completing a service project for the camp. This can be done through your troop's service project or through the lodge. If a scout takes part in his unit's project, he should obtain his scoutmaster's signature as verification. You may also wish to complete the project with other Brotherhood candidates on Tuesday afternoon.
Letter to Secretary: Interested Scouts should also prepare a short letter addressed to the Lodge Secretary telling him about the reasons you decided to obtain Brotherhood and how you plan to continue your service in the lodge and in scouting.
The Brotherhood hike and ceremony have been moved to Thursday evening to avoid time constraints. Candidates should meet at the climbing wall at 8:45PM and wait for any candidates taking COPE. Questions can be directed to the Lodge Chief or Adviser.
Ice Cream Social: Back by popular demand, the lodge leaders will once again be serving ice cream to all OA members at 9:00PM in the Manor House. All members of the OA are invited and encouraged to attend this event. This is a wonderful opportunity to get to know other members of the lodge. Wear your lodge t-shirts to show your support!
Flag Ceremony: Allogagan Lodge will be performing a special flag ceremony on Wednesday morning at colors. This ceremony has recieved high praise when performed at Cub Scout Camp and at the Council Camporee.
